What is ‘Bare root’?
The term ‘Bare root’ refers to a tree/shrub that is field grown, and lifted with all of the soil shaken from the roots leaving it ‘bare’. This method of lifting is used for all of our forestry production, light feathered and standard trees, and our field grown evergreen shrubs. The tree/shrubs roots are then sealed in a polythene bag to prevent them from drying out.
When are you open?
Crowders Nurseries are open from 8.00 until 5.00 Monday to Thursday and 8.00 until 4.00 on Friday, excluding bank holidays and Christmas.
What is a ‘Rootball’?
The term ‘Rootball’ means the tree/shrub has been lifted using specialist machinery that contains the soil around the roots. The rootball is then wrapped in hessian and secured in a wire basket, both will decompose once planted. This method of lifting minimalizes stress during transportation, keeps the majority of vital fibrous roots intact and helps contains the moisture.
