Crowders Nurseries are a 7th generation family owned business growing and supplying hardy wholesale nursery stock to commercial landscape professionals, land owners and public sector organisations. Nursery Grower

Full-time, permanent position

Main purpose of the job:

Staff will be involved with all aspects of work relating to the production of field grown seedlings, trees or Container grown plants.  This may include; land preparation, planting, potting, sowing, cultivating, plant handling, weed, pest and disease control, watering and feeding. Resulting in the growth of high-quality plants for our customers.

Roles & Duties

Undertake duties which require specific skills if trained to do so, to include but not limited to;

  • Learn within your own processes plant recognition, quality observance, plant health, sizing requirements, working systems and production outputs as required.
  • Respect and follow stock control systems in place to provide accurate figures within the system
  • Prepare, handle and process plants for despatch within the guidelines given
  • Help the Company to protect the health of yourself and others
  • If specific role requires, mentor, train and supervise others
  • Be prepared to transfer and assist all other parts of the business as required

Apprenticeship Program

The apprenticeship program is run in partnership with our local land-based college, Riseholme. It is a two-year program which reinforces theory-based learning one day a week with four days of practical experience on the nursery. Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, successful applicants will rotate around our three sites, learning about the three areas of production including; forestry seedlings, field grown trees and containerised plants. This gives a fantastic opportunity for anyone starting a career in commercial horticulture as they are able to experience very different and specialised production systems. As well as supporting apprentices with their college work, we provide additional training for obtaining spraying licences and tractor driving. Our goal is to provide apprentices with the maximum opportunity to begin and develop their career in horticulture.
